Stepan Ivanovich Kopiev, a baptized Jew , became a citizen of Russia during the conquest of Smolensk ( 1655 ). One of his sons, Danilo, was the commissioner in Verkhoturye, and the other, Samoilo, was a member of the revision board. Pyotr Danilovich Kopiev, governor in Tsyvilsk, was killed by Pugachev in 1771.
The Kopiev family was included in the VI part of the genealogy book of the St. Petersburg and Yaroslavl provinces of the Russian Empire .
The motto of the Kopiev family is: “ It will not shake ”.
