“Son of the Fatherland” is a political, literary and learned newspaper published daily in St. Petersburg in 1862–1901 .

History
From 1856 to 1861 in St. Petersburg, the publisher A. V. Starchevsky published the magazine “ Son of the Fatherland ”.
In 1862, the magazine was transformed into a newspaper. Since 1882 it was issued in two editions (the second - cheapened).
Editors at different times were A. V. Starchevsky , N. Petrov, I. I. Uspensky, S. E. Dobrodeev , S. P. Yuritsyn .
The newspaper was designed for the general reader. The program included official news, court news, nonresident and foreign news (mainly reprints from official publications), literary news, magazine reviews, public affairs, commercial news, price tags. The newspaper called on society to support the government in implementing liberal reforms, held a government point of view on the Polish question, and accused the democratic youth of provocative Petersburg arsons.
In the years 1862-1886, a supplement to the Sunday Numbers newspaper was published weekly. From 1886 to 1889, "Weekly Supplements to the newspaper" Son of the Fatherland "" was published. Since 1889, 6 times a year, the “Free supplement to the newspaper“ Son of the Fatherland “Novels and Tales (Home Library)” was published.
