According to the Syrian authorities, al-Mallohi allegedly passed on secret information about the Syrian consulate in Egypt to the employees of the US embassy. Her actions, according to Damascus, helped carry out attacks on the branch of the Syrian secret services in Cairo on November 17, 2010. Then, as a result of the attack, one of the Syrian security forces suffered. Al-Mallohi allegedly received a reward for their services. She has already pleaded guilty to espionage.

According to Human Rights Watch , Tal al-Mallohi was arrested in Damascus on December 27, 2009. After the arrest, searches were carried out in her home, a computer, CDs and other personal items were confiscated ^{[6] [7] [8]} . Then the authorities did not name the reasons for the arrest. However, Syrian human rights activists link the arrest of schoolgirls with entries in her blog. At the same time, the organization reports that al-Mallohi’s diary was devoted mainly to social problems, as well as to the lives of the inhabitants of Palestinian territories, and did not contain criticism of the regime of Bashar al-Assad.
