Franz Andreas Anton Kalckhoff ( German: Franz Andreas Anton Kalckhoff ; November 30, 1860 , Charlottenburg - February 13, 1955 , Einbeck ) [1] - German philatelist and chemist . Biography

Since 1879, Kalkhoff studied chemistry in Berlin . After graduation , he worked first in Berlin, then from 1885 at Höchster Farbwerke . Beginning in 1889, he was on a business trip to England as a paint chemist at Huddersfield . Later he worked for a while in Prague , and then in 1892 in Berlin. From September 1, 1893 he worked as a chemist in . His further career included the following stages: since 1901 - , since 1912 - heheimrat and since 1921 - [3] . In 1925, he retired [4] . forced him in 1943 to move to his daughter and son-in-law in Einbeck [3] .

In 1933, Calkhoff married Elli Bungerz , nee Quack, and widow of Alexander Bungerz [1] .

Contribution to Philately

Franz Kalkhoff has been interested in philately since childhood. Even when he was at school, he already read in the 1870s the philatelic newspaper and the catalog 1874 edition [4] .

Kalkhoff published some of his philatelic works and scientific articles under the pseudonym Franz Andreas , A. Franz ”( A. Franz ) or“ ff ”( “ ff ” ) [4] . Together with his philatelist colleague Karl Lindenberg, he exposed the fakes of Georges Fouret . In 1891, he headed the editorial board of the newspaper Illustrierte Briefmarken-Zeitung , published by E. Heitmann in Leipzig [3] [5] . In 1926-1927 he was the editor-in-chief of Postwertzeichen [5] [6] . In addition, Kalkhoff worked on the compilation of the Schwaneberger album for stamps and was part of the editorial board of the Zenf Brothers stamp catalog [4] . He was a member of several German and foreign associations of stamp collectors [7] . After moving to Berlin from 1893, he was secretary, and from 1903 to 1907, he was chairman of the [4] [8] . He was seriously keen on collecting whole things, collecting telegraph and telephone stamps , as well as other less common collectibles [7] .
