The complaint was satisfied, with the award of pecuniary compensation (EUR 8,000). After a new trial, on November 29, 2005, the Naro-Fominsk City Court for the second time found Rokhlina guilty of the murder of her husband and sentenced her to four years in prison, setting her also a probationary period of 2.5 years [2] .

According to the official version, their death occurred shortly before the assassination of the general and has nothing to do with him. However, many of Rokhlin’s comrades-in-arms believed that they were real murderers whom the Kremlin’s special services had liquidated, “sweeping the tracks.”

Background

Rokhlin is considered one of the most active opposition leaders in 1997-1998. In the magazine "Russian Reporter" it was stated, with reference to Rokhlin’s colleagues and friends, that the general was plotting to remove President Boris Yeltsin and establish a military dictatorship [3] [4] .

The assistant to the head of the State Duma Security Committee, V. Ilyukhin, described the scenario of the planned removal of Yeltsin and his entourage from power: a mass rally is being held, participants are demanding the resignation of the extremely unpopular president and government. Since Yeltsin was firmly determined not to resign and was capable of violating the Constitution and using force , if there were threats to the protesters, it was planned to send troops to Moscow to defend them. Despite the “cleansing” of the army and thanks to an unpopular government policy, Rokhlin found many sympathetic officers who promised assistance. The ruling administration was able to restore not only impoverished Russians against itself - even the oligarch Gusinsky offered Rokhlin financial support for eliminating Yeltsin, but Rokhlin refused [5] . According to A. Lebed [6] , he nevertheless used the money of the Most Group JSC for meetings with members of the public and, probably, for flights to the regions. The murder of Rokhlin violated these plans, but an impeachment attempt was carried out, and this could affect Yeltsin’s decision to resign later.
