History

Colombia and Mexico have a common history in the period when they were colonized by Spain , the territories of these countries were part of the Spanish viceroy kingdoms . On November 10, 2005, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez declared in his speech in the Alo Presidente program that he considers Mexico’s President Vincent Fox Quesada a “ puppy ” who does not pursue an independent policy and follows the United States of America [1] [2] . The Mexican government demanded an apology for such statements, but the appeal remained unanswered by the Venezuelan government, which triggered a diplomatic crisis between the countries [3] [4] .

In 2006, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced that Venezuela would withdraw from the G-3 trading block due to strained relations with the leaders of Mexico ( Vincente Fox Quesada ) and Colombia ( Alvaro Uribe Veles ). In August 2007, after two years of diplomatic conflict, relations between the countries returned to normal and Venezuela regained its membership in the Group of Three [5] .

In April 2013, Nicolas Maduro was elected president of Venezuela and the Government of Mexico stressed the close ties between the countries, as well as the willingness to engage with the elected president. In January 2015, Nicolas Maduro accused Mexican President Felipe Calderon of plotting with the opposition to organize a coup d'état in Venezuela. Nicholas Maduro also accused Felipe Calderon of having links with drug cartels [6] [7] .
