The species is distributed on the eastern border of the East African Rift Valley in western Uganda and western Tanzania . Five subpopulations are known. The species numbers more than 20,000 individuals (2005 data), of which 17,000 live in Kibale National Park in Uganda.
Sexual dimorphism is expressed: males are larger than females. The weight of males is 10.5 kg, the weight of females is 7 kg [1] . Woody species, inhabits forests of various types. It is found in river and gallery forests , in savannah mosaic forests of miombo , low-lying forests, in a tropical mountain rain forest, in secondary degraded forests. Lives in large groups of 30-60 individuals. It feeds on young leaves, fruits, shoots and seeds.
