Story

Howard Silk ( Johnathan Kimble Simmons ), a modest employee of a bureaucratic agency who lives in Berlin , once discovers that his organization protects the secret of moving into a parallel dimension . Thirty years ago, as a result of a scientific experiment, a parallel world arose, at first completely identical to the existing one. But over time, the worlds began to differ. In the first world (the Alpha world) in Berlin, one can observe a developed liberal society, similar to the modern Western European one. And in Berlin, the second world (the Prime world) - tough authoritarian rule, deserted streets, frequent interspersing of architecture inherent in real Berlin (for example, a copy of the Moscow Evolution tower ) in the historical urban landscape.

In the 1990s, the Prime universe survived the terrible pandemic of swine flu , which claimed the lives of 7% of the world's population (about half a billion people). In the Prime world, people wear protective dressings and do not shake hands to avoid infection. A person can be sent to prison for not reporting a sick family member. Streets, cinemas, shopping centers and other public places are deserted. Despite the rejection of claims and an agreement at the official level, second-world fanatics are convinced that the cause of the pandemic was a targeted attack by Alpha.

A world is separated by a corridor. At the border there are rules, customs , diplomatic relations , illegal immigrants and agents catching them. To visit the “other” side, a visa is required , which is issued mainly for several hours or days. Most agents work in an “office” (Office of Exchange): a gloomy symmetrical building on both sides of the door. Employees on one side of Berlin go to work in plain gray suits with gray ties, and on the other hand, in plain blue suits with blue ties. Special services of both worlds communicate with each other, transmitting encrypted information about their world and dangerous people illegally crossing the border.

Since there used to be one world, people in each of the current worlds have “analogues” - a person with a different life line, but a common past and the same genotype . Once, Howard's double comes to the “office” from the “other side,” and it turns out not to be a petty clerk, but a very skilled operative whose task is to prevent the crimes of the killer girl ...

Howard Silk is a lower-level bureaucrat in a UN agency in Berlin called the Office of Exchange, where he works in the Transmission Division, exchanging encoded question-and-answer messages with another agent. Despite his long tenure, Howard does not know the purpose of the department and nothing about Peter Quile, the director of strategy for the Office of Exchange, who blocks Howard’s promotion, citing Howard’s lackluster career. Every day after work, Howard visits his wife Emily, who is in a coma after being hit by a car. The next day, Howard is introduced to a person who is one-on-one similar to him and who is presented as Howard Prime. Quayle explains that in the last years of the Cold War, East Germans accidentally created a portal into a parallel universe , which is located in the basement of the Office building. Howard Prime explains that the killer, on the other hand, code-named Baldwin, finds his victims according to a list that also includes Howard’s wife. That same night, Howard Prime introduces himself to Howard Alpha in Emily’s hospital and lures Baldwin, but she runs away. Howard Prime returns to his side and stops at the bar where he meets Emily Prime, who, according to him, told Alpha to Howard, supposedly died of cancer.
