History
- 1975: Founding of AFCI. Several film commissions decided to join together for a convenient opportunity to share experience and knowledge in order to meet the growing demands of filmmakers.

Composition
AFCI includes film commissions from around the world. These are organizations supported by the government, the purpose of which is to develop and promote film production in their region, which brings revenues to the local budget by attracting local staff, renting equipment, transport and premises, providing hotels, catering and other services.

Criteria
To be part of the International Association, the film commission must meet the following criteria:
- Be approved and supported by official state local authorities
- Provide basic services free of charge without commission
- Avoid conflicts of interest between the official tasks of the film commission and the commercial interests of commission agents and its employees
- Stay in touch throughout the entire production; upon request, always provide full access to relevant regional services
- Provide support, including resolving issues by phone, email
- Act as an intermediary between filmmakers and all levels of government
- Take the AFCI training program, which is designed for new film commissions and lasts 18 months [2]
Regional Trade Fair
Regional Trade Fair ( AFCI Locations Show ) is an exhibition where film commissions present their services and accessible locations. The first fair took place in 1985, was organized on the basis of the American Film Fair ( Eng. American Film Market ), 60 film commissions, 1,200 people took part in it. In 1991, the number of visitors tripled; the fair was moved to Santa Monica. Now the fair has been renamed the AFCI Global Finance and Locations Show, more than 200 film commissions and 3,000 people participate in it. [3]
Since 2014, the Award Ceremony of the Guild of Location Managers has been held within the framework of the fair. It is designed to attract more participants to the event. [four]
Sineposium
Cineposium - an event in the field of education and business services, held since 1976. At the film commission seminars, they study the management and business processes of film production. Each year, different cities become the venue, so in 2011 the meeting was held in the suburbs of Paris . [five]
AFCI Training
AFCI provides training for film commissions that are part of it, as well as for other interested parties. Online workshops on the basics of film commissions are held. A license is provided for self-training opportunities for employees in the region.
AFCI hosts workshops at international festivals such as the Sundance , Cannes Film Festival , Berlin Film Festival and Busan International Film Festival .
Beyond Cinema Magazine
Since 2012, the International Association of Film Commissions has published its own magazine, Beyond Cinema, which can be translated as “Beyond the Cinema”. The publication is published twice a year with a circulation of 30,000 copies. In addition to distribution by international subscription, the magazine is available at several festivals, as well as in electronic form on the official website. [6]
Criticism
Only about a quarter of film commissions from around the world are members of the International Association of Film Commissions. According to the rules of the association, the film commission must be officially supported by the authorities of the region, which imposes restrictions.
