Nicolas Yasent Gauthier ( Fr. Nicolas Hyacinthe Gautier ; 1774-1809) - French military leader, brigadier general (1805), Baron (1808), participant of the revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. The name of the general is stamped on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris .

Biography
He began his service in September 1792 in the company of Ludeak volunteers, and was chosen as a lieutenant by fellow servicemen. He served in the Northern, Moselle and Rhine armies. In 1796 he joined the staff of General Demon in the rank of captain. Participated in the defense of Kehl.
When crossing the Rhine on April 20, 1797, he captured the village of Dirsheim with his grenadiers at night, and kept her from numerous enemy attacks. During the battle was wounded in the arm. General Moreau, to mark the hero, sent Gauthier to Paris with captured trophies. In 1799, he was promoted to colonel and became Massena's adjutant. Fought in the ranks of the Italian army in the years 1799-1800. Participated in the defense of Genoa.
On February 1, 1805, he was promoted to brigadier general, and led the 2nd brigade in the 3rd infantry division of Gudin . Participated in campaigns in Austria, Prussia and Poland. Brilliantly proved himself in the battle of Auerstedt, where his team withstood the blow of the main Prussian forces, Gauthier was wounded. December 10-11, 1806 won the victory at Okunin.
In April 1809 he was appointed Chief of Staff of the 2nd Corps of Marshal Lannes . He was mortally wounded in the battle of Wagram and died in Vienna on July 14, 1809.
