Biography
Born on January 8, 1846 [2] in the town of Con-Cours-sur-Loire in Burgundy , France.
He studied at the Imperial Lyceum of Nievra, at the Dijon Academy and the Imperial School of Professions and Arts. In 1870 he moved to Russia, in 1875, at the invitation of the Military Governor-General of the Semirechensk region G. A. Kolpakovsky , he arrived in Kazakhstan in the city of Verny (now Alma-Ata ), where he was appointed junior engineer of the Semirechensky construction department, and later became head this branch.
From 1883 to 1903, Pavel Vasilievich Gourde was the permanent city architect of Verny, who made a great contribution to the construction and architecture of the city. He also took part in the development of the cityβs infrastructure - street lighting, the creation of a water supply system and other projects. Gourde took part in the construction of the Ili bridge, Vernensky male and female gymnasiums, the governorβs house, and the building of the city school. Designed the Holy Ascension Cathedral, participated in the restoration of the domes of the Intercession Cathedral and other buildings of the Verny. [3]
Also, Pavel Gurde was engaged in social activities - from 1889 to 1892 he held the position of Honorary Member of the Semirechensk Regional Guardianship of Children's Shelters.
In 1900, he participated in the World Exhibition in Paris , where he presented a map of minerals of the Semirechensk region. In 1905, he donated part of the minerals from his collection to the museum in Verny. He was the author of some works that are now stored in the collections of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan:
- "A note on cattle breeding in the Semirechensk region, in connection with the planned connection of Tashkent with Siberia by rail, through Verny, Semipalatinsk and Altai";
- "Note on the Central Asian Railway."
After 35 years spent in the Semirechensk region, in 1910 Gurdy moved to St. Petersburg, where he died in 1914 . The place of his burial is unknown; he had no children.
One of the streets of Alma-Ata - Chokan Valikhanov - bore his name. [4] [5]

- He was awarded the Orders of St. Stanislav of the 3rd and 2nd degrees, the Orders of St. Anna of the 3rd and 2nd degrees, the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree and medals.
