Biography
In 1947 he graduated from the Pasta pedagogical school. In 1949 - 1953 he studied at the history department of the Belarusian State University .
He worked as director of the Svatkovsky school, head of the Myadel regional department of national education, and will memorize Molodechno medical school.
In 1964 he entered the graduate school of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the BSSR .
In 1971 he defended his thesis and received the degree of candidate of historical sciences.
Scientific Activities
During the excavations of the city of Volkovysk in 1965 - 1971, he investigated defensive structures, aboveground and semi-earthen dwellings of the XI-XIII centuries, the foundation of the temple of the XII century. Proved the existence of the city for 250 years before its first mention in written sources. The results of archaeological research are presented in a monograph entitled “Ancient Volkovysk (X — XIV centuries)” , which was published in 1975 .
For several years, Yaroslav Zverugo has been excavating medieval monuments of the Upper Neman Basin - kurgan burials, stone mounds and tombs, ancient settlements and settlements. The collected material was summarized by Yaroslav Zverugo in the monograph "Upper Neman in the 9th — 13th centuries." The book used the research of previous scientists, as well as numerous documentary sources. He showed that the process of colonization of the local Baltic tribes took place from the lands of the Dregovichi, Volynians, Krivichi, Drevlyans and, to a lesser extent, the West Slavic tribes. The book depicted the material and spiritual culture of the inhabitants of Ponemanya, their intensive connections with neighboring territories.
The scientist paid much attention to the Myadel district . He explored the settlement and settlement on the peninsula of Lake Myastro in Myadel, the town of Svir , the settlements near the village of Zasvir , Nikoltsy, burial mounds near the villages of Zasvir , Navra. He explored the sites near the villages of Ostrovlyany, Boyary, Denisovo, Peregorod, Sloboda, Telyaki, Shikovichi; settlements near the villages of Ostrovlyany, Denisovo, Korki, Kurchino, Pasynki, Peregorod, Skara, Sloboda; burial mounds near the villages of Aleshka, Guski, Corky, Nagavka, Nevera, Polesye, Sloboda, Staraka, Shkleniki, etc.
Yaroslav Genrikhovich Zverugo made a significant contribution to the study of the ancient cities of Belarus: Grodno , Zditovo (Berezovsky district), Lida , Slonim , Turiysk (Schuchinsky district).
Yaroslav Zverugo prepared a number of articles in the 12-volume “Belarusian Savtsky Entsklapediі” , “Zbory Pomnіk ў gistory і cultures of Belarus” , the encyclopedia “Archealogіya і numizmatka Belarus” . He was one of the authors of the collective works “Essays on the archeology of Belarus. Part 2 " (Mn., 1972 ) and " Belarusian archeology: the achievements of archaeologists during the years of Soviet power " (Mn., 1987 ).
