Constantine II - antipapa , come from a rich Roman family. His brother, Duke Toto, immediately after the death of Pope Paul I, put him on the papal throne by force. The simple landowner the Roman clergy dedicated first to subdeacons , then to deacons . The Duke forced the Romans to swear allegiance to Constantine. July 5, 767 in the Basilica of St. Peter, Constantine was ordained pope. Attempts by the pope to establish contacts with the king of the francs, Pepin, ended in failure. The Lombards conspired and led the army to Rome. The Duke Toto on July 28, 768, was assassinated by conspirators. Constantine fled from the Lateran , but was caught and imprisoned in a monastery. The Duke Graciosi overtook him and blinded.

On April 12, 769, at the Lateran Council, held under the leadership of the new pope Stephen III (IV) , Constantine was condemned and, according to ESBE , blinded [1] . Killed by the Lombards in the monastery of San Saba (Rome).
