Gregory Balestrero (born July 16, 1947 in New York) is an American industrial engineer and general director of the Project Management Institute [1] .

Biography
The son of Christopher Emanuel (September 29, 1909 - February 27, 1998) and Rosie Balestrero (February 11, 1910 - December 1982) [2] , about which Hitchcock's film “The Wrong Person ” (1956) was shot. In 1970, Gregory Balestrero received a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology [3] . From 1994 to 2002, he served as Executive Director of the Construction Engineering Institute (CSI), an organization for construction professionals in non-residential building construction, based in Alexandria, Virginia USA. Previously, he served as Executive Director at the Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE) [4] , and served as Acting Executive Director since 1987 at the headquarters of Nokros, Georgia [5] . Between 2002 and 2010, he was President and CEO of the Project Management Institute. Balestrero served as chairman of the 2003-2004 Greater Washington Society of Leaders [1] .
Balestrero was awarded a scholarship at the Worldwide Academy of Productivity Scientists and is an honorary member of Alpha Pi Mu, an industrial engineering honor society. In 2004, he received the China Friendship Award at the Great Hall of the People's Assembly in Beijing [6] .
In March 2012, Balestrero joined the International Institute of Education [7] , where he acts as a strategic adviser on the new addressing program Corporate Consciousness, Leadership and Sustainability [8] .
Project Management Institute
Gregory Balestrero moved to the Institute for Project Management in 2002 and immediately became president and CEO. He succeeded Virgil R. Carter, a former executive director of the Institute. Balestrero continued rapid growth, which began during Carter's stay [9] . His two main tasks for the Institute are:
- creating excellent project management practices
- Get worldwide recognition for the profession.
During his tenure, the Project Management Institute grew from 93,000 in 2002 to more than 260,000 members in 2008 [1] .
On January 15, 2011, he retired and became Honorary Director General at the Project Management Institute [10] .
Activities after leaving the post of director
After leaving the Institute of Project Management in 2011, Balestrero traveled around the world, presenting keynote speeches and consulting with business leaders about the problems of the global economy [11] .
