Evgeny Alexandrovich Romanov (born July 20, 1985 , Volgograd , USSR ) is a Russian professional boxer in the heavy weight category (over 91 kg). International master of sports , world champion among juniors (2004), champion of Europe among juniors (2003), champion of Russia (2009), three-time silver medalist of the championships of Russia (2005, 2006, 2008) in the 1st heavy weight (up to 91 kg) in lovers. Among the professionals, the champion in the WBO Global (2019-present) heavyweight champion.

As an amateur, he knocked out the current WBC heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder [1] . As of September 2019, BoxRec ranked 21st and is 2nd among Russian boxers (after Alexander Povetkin ) in the heavy weight category, and ranked 10th in the WBO rating and 22nd in the WBC rating by major international boxing organizations - entering the TOP-20 of the best heavyweights around the world.

Amateur career
He began to actively engage in boxing at the age of twelve according to the instructions of his stepfather. At first, he underwent training under the leadership of Valery Pavlovich Makienko, later in the period from 2002 to 2010 he was the ward of the honored trainer of Russia Alexander Sergeyevich Chernoivanov [2] .
In August 2003, he became the European champion among juniors in the weight category up to 91 kg [3] [4] [5] . And in June 2004 he became the world champion among juniors in the weight category up to 91 kg [6] [7] [8] .
In 2005, he performed at the Russian Championship in Magnitogorsk in the weight category up to 91 kg. Sergey Smykov defeated in the 1/8 finals, and Denis Miroshnichenko defeated in the quarter-finals. Rakhim Chakhkiev won in the semifinals, but lost to Alexander Alekseev in the final [9] .
In 2006, he performed at the Russian Championship in Khanty-Mansiysk in the weight category up to 91 kg. Sergey Smykov defeated in the 1/8 finals, and Igor Sinyavsky defeated in the quarter-finals. In the semifinals, Abukar Dzangiev defeated, but in the final he lost to Roman Romanchuk [10] .
In 2007, he performed at the Russian Championship in Yakutsk in the weight category up to 91 kg. In the 1/8 finals, he defeated Sergey Kalchugin , and in the quarterfinal he lost to Musalchi Magomedov [11] .
In 2008 , in a Russia-USA match, he knocked out Deontay Wilder [1] [12] - the future world champion . In October of that year, he played at the Russian Championship in Kaliningrad in the weight category up to 91 kg. In the 1/8 finals, he defeated Alexei Zubov, and in the quarter-finals he defeated Andrei Afonin . Spartak Bakhtiyarov defeated in the semifinals, but lost to Yegor Mekhontsev in the final [13] . In December of the same year, he also performed at the World Cup in Moscow in the weight category up to 91 kg. And in the quarterfinals, he lost to Osmai Acosta [14] - who ultimately won the gold of the World Cup.
In 2009, he performed at the Russian Championship in Rostov-on-Don , where he defeated Pavel Nikitayev in the 1/8 finals, and Abdulhamid Nurmagomedov in the quarter-finals. Sergey Kalchugin defeated in the semi-final and defeated Spartak Bakhtiyarov in the final, and finally became the champion of Russia in the weight category up to 91 kg [15] .
In 2010, he announced the completion of an amateur career [16] .
Professional career
He made his debut in the professional ring on July 30, 2016, having won by technical knockout in the 3rd round [17] [18] .
In December 2017, he signed a contract with the promotion company RCC Boxing Promotions [19] .
On April 22, 2018, Evgeny Romanov defeated Denis Bakhtov (39-12, 26 KOs), the most experienced, but significantly spent, compatriot by technical knockout in the 1st round [20] .
On August 24, 2019, Eugene defeated Argentinean Dario Balmaceda by technical knockout in the first round [21] .
