History

In 1957, the company "Shin Chuo Kogyo KK" began developing a new revolver, which was supposed to replace the US-made revolvers in service with the Japanese police, received under the military assistance program after 1945. The serial production of the revolver began in 1960, and in 1961 they began to enter service with the units of the Japanese police [3] .

A small number of revolvers were exported - for commercial sale as civilian weapons [3] .

Description

The design of the revolver is a copy of the design of the compact revolvers "Smith & Wesson" .38 caliber [3] . The M60 has a solid steel frame, a rifled barrel with five right-side cuts, a five-charge drum reclining away and a double-action firing mechanism [2] .

Sights permanent, include a fly and a rear sight with a square slot [1] .

The weapon was produced in several versions: with a short barrel with a length of 55 mm or an elongated barrel with a length of 77 mm, with a high or low front sight, with a swivel on a revolving handle for securing a safety cord or without it [5] .

Variants and modifications

  • Model 58 - the first version that did not have a sling on the base of the handle [3]
  • Model 60 - a serial version of 1960, with more comfortable overlays on the handle and swivel [3]
