The commune is located 280 km east of Paris and 15 km south of Metz [3] .
The area of the commune is 10.46 km², the population is 10,172 people [4] (2006) with an upward trend: 10,563 people [5] (2014), the population density is 1,009.9 people / km². Previously part of Lorraine .

In 2010, out of 6,711 people of working age (15 to 64 years old), 5083 were economically active , 1628 inactive (activity indicator 75.7%, in 1999 - 65.8%).
