The commune is located at a distance of about 280 km east of Paris and 30 km south of Metz [3] .
The area of the commune is 6.96 km², the population is 6326 people [4] (2006) with a tendency to stabilize: 6297 people [5] (2013), the population density is 904.7 people / km². Previously part of Lorraine .

Economics
In 2010, out of 4,062 people of working age (from 15 to 64 years), 2,909 were economically active , 1,153 inactive (activity indicator 71.6%, in 1999 63.0%). Out of 2909 active able-bodied residents, 2574 people worked (1415 men and 1159 women), 335 were unemployed (153 men and 182 women). Among 1,153 able-bodied inactive citizens, 332 were pupils or students , 305 were pensioners , and another 516 were inactive for other reasons [9] [10] .
