He was the son of a jeweler Art Conix. Phillips has been married twice; in 1641 on Cornelia, the sister of Abraham Furnérius, who lives in Rotterdam, and in 1657 on Margaret Van Rijn from Amsterdam. He began to study painting under the guidance of his brother Jacob in Rotterdam. After his second marriage, he moved to Amsterdam. According to the Dutch art writer Arnold Houbraken , Konink graduated from the Rembrandt studio.
Landscape was his specialty, but sometimes, as an exception, he also took on portraits and genre paintings. He especially liked to depict panoramic views of flat areas, in the spirit of his great teacher. Loyalty to nature, mastery of drawing, warmth and clarity of color, thoroughness of execution - these are the advantages of these landscapes, examples of which can be seen in Rotterdam, The Hague, Amsterdam, Brussels, Berlin and some other museums.
Of the more rare landscape works of this artist, you can point to his own portrait, in the Uffizi Gallery , in Florence , “Merry Sailors”, in the Schwerin Gallery, and on “The Sewer” - in the Hermitage .
