Pak Ji Hyo ( cor. 박지효 , at the birth of Pak Ji Su ( cor. 박지수 ; born February 1, 1997 , better known as Jihyo [1] )) is a South Korean singer . He is the leader and main vocalist of the girl group Twice .

Biography and career
1997–2014: The Early Years and 6Mix
Park Ji Soo was born on February 1, 1997 in Kuri , South Korea . In her family, in addition to her parents, there are two younger sisters. [2] In August 2004, Jisu was casted for the first cast of children's actors Naver , where she won second place. She was noticed by JYP Entertainment employees and offered to go through a casting. On July 15, 2015, the girl officially began her internship at the agency as an actress. [3] Initially, she was preparing for a debut in the new 6Mix female group, along with Nayeon, Jongyon, Minyon, Lena and Cecilia (which was later replaced by Sana ), but as a result of Lena's departure, the collective debut was finally canceled. [4] In pre-debut times, she appeared in commercials and video clips of other JYP artists.
In 2015, after graduating from high school, she refused to take exams for college to focus on her career. [five]
2015 − present: Sixteen, Twice debut, and solo endeavors
In April 2015, it became known that JYP, together with Mnet, would begin filming the Sixteen reality show, where sixteen agency trainings would fight for a chance to make their debut as part of the new Twice female group, where only seven would be in the final the participants; Jisoo (later changing her name to Jihyo) was confirmed as one of the girls who would take part in the show. [6] Throughout all the episodes, the girl was one of the most popular participants and ended up in the group, but at the last moment Park Chin Young changed his mind and nine people were included in Twice - Momo and Ziyu were added. [7] Thus, part of the group consisted of previously future 6Mix members who never made their debut: Nayeon, Jongyon, and Sana were also selected for the final squad. [eight]
Twice debuted on October 20, 2015 with the mini album The Story Begins . [9] Jihyo became a leader thanks to the fact that she had been working at the agency for over ten years. [10] The group achieved significant popularity in the spring of 2016 with the release of the single " Cheer Up ", which became a hit in Korea and allowed to win the nomination "Song of the Year" at the Mnet Asian Music Awards , which marked the first desang in the band's career. [11] On November 6, 2016, the digital single “The Reason I Got Pretty (내가 예뻐진 이유)” was released with A Pink and Ben Eunzhi. Many critics describe Jihyo's voice as “strong and soft,” and also emphasize that she “always sings with her soul.” The girl is on the list of the best main vocalists among the third generation of Korean music along with Rose from Black Pink and Sola from Mamamoo . [15]
