History
The church in the name of the Holy Spirit in Lublin was founded in 1419 along with a hospital for the poor old people. The temple and hospital complex was erected behind the city wall in the Gothic style . The church had one nave with a narrow presbytery and a high roof with a sharp stepped pediment on the facade . On March 10, 1421, the church was consecrated by the Krakow Archbishop Wojciech Jastrzębiec . In 1508, the property of the church and the hospital was leased to the citizen Nikolai удudla, and two years later the Krakow Archbishop transferred it to the city council. By the middle of the XVI century the property of the church was significantly reduced. The temple burned twice - in 1575 and 1602, and was rebuilt in 1608 in the style of the with a baroque interior. In the same year, the chapel of Blessed Stanislav Kostka was founded in the church.
In 1610, the church and the hospital were transferred to monks - barefoot Carmelites, who rebuilt the hospital buildings in the monastery and re-consecrated the church in the name of Our Lady of Carmel . In 1642, the image of the Mother of God of the Good Council cried with bloody tears in the church. In the same century, a chapel was founded in the church in the name of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and by the end of the next century the image was recognized as miraculous. In 1733 the church burned again. A few years later, it was restored, adding baroque elements to the facade. But in 1803, it burned down for the fourth time. The ruins of the burned monastery acquired the city authorities, who built the building of the New Town Hall in its place and the place of the former Svyatoduhovsky gate. The church was rebuilt again in 1846, adding neo-Gothic elements to the exterior decoration, while the interior of the temple remained in the Baroque style. In 1928, the chapel of St. Anthony was founded in the church, designed by architect . In 1939, during the Second World War, the temple was damaged by an explosion and was subsequently rebuilt.
