Content
Story
Unsociable and self-absorbed Lee works as a locksmith in an apartment building. He spends his free time watching TV and drinking at the bar. Upon learning that his older brother is dead, Lee returns to Manchester's seaside hometown. He recalls his life in this city and the terrible tragedy that happened to his own family. During the investigation, the police concluded that it was an accident. However, Lee believes that the tragedy occurred through his fault, and can not forgive himself for this. Suddenly, he learns that in his will the brother indicated him as the guardian of Patrick's 16-year-old nephew. Through a relationship with a teenager, Lee is trying to find the meaning of continued existence.

The film was praised by world critics. On the review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a rating of 95% based on 295 reviews with an average score of 8.8 out of 10 [8] . On the Metacritic site , the film has 96 points out of 100 based on 52 reviews [9] .
It was included in the vast majority of the lists of the best films of the year [10] .
