Under the direction of V. M. Govorun, research continues on the systemic biology of bacteria with a reduced genome ( Mycoplasma gallisepticum ); A project is being carried out to study the composition of the microbiota of the gastrointestinal tract, characteristic of residents of various territories of the Russian Federation, in normal conditions and pathology. Studies are underway to evaluate the possible contribution of microorganisms to the development of a number of pathological conditions, such as Crohn's disease , COPD , and new pathogenetic mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases ( Guillain-Barre syndrome ) are being investigated. V.M. Govorun is also working on the creation of personalized medicine algorithms, the translation of fundamental biomedical knowledge into practical healthcare.

Author of over 280 scientific articles in international and domestic journals, as well as 10 patents for inventions. Under his leadership, defended 6 doctoral and 15 master's theses, as well as 25 graduation projects. The Hirsch index is 29, more than 2840 citations ^[2] .
