Description
Model 1006 is made of stainless steel. Uses magazine for 9 rounds of type 10mm Auto . As safety mechanisms, magazine and non-automatic fuses are provided, as well as a safe trigger trigger. Both fixed and mounted mechanical sights are used with a gun [1] .
Model 1006 was the first in a series of “thousandth models” of the third generation of self-loading pistols: this range also includes Smith & Wesson pistols of models 1046, 1026, 1066, 1076 (FBI model) and 1086. They are considered one of the most reliable and powerful pistols. The third generation also includes models 5906 , 4006 and 4506 .
Application
Smith & Wesson Model 1076 from this series is known as the “FBI pistol”: the Federal Bureau of Investigation ordered 10 thousand pistols for its agents. The reason for this was a in Miami in 1986, when two agents were killed, chasing two robbers (another five FBI agents were injured). However, the FBI received only 2,400 copies, after which the contract was broken [2] .
In 1990, the Virginia State Police entered into a contract for the supply of 1,026 Smith & Wesson Model 1026 pistols, and in July the entire batch was handed over to the police. This model did not differ from the original 1076th, with the exception of an elongated barrel and lightened reloading of the gun. In 1994, the police abandoned these pistols, adopting the SIG Sauer P228 .
Production
According to Smith and Wesson, a total of 50,796 pistols of this type were manufactured under the 10mm Auto cartridge. [3]
