Biography

Born April 20, 1875 in St. Petersburg in a family of intellectuals.

In 1901 he graduated from the Physics and Mathematics Department of St. Petersburg University with a degree in physics. His main teacher at the university was Associate Professor V.V. Lermantov (1845-1919), under whose guidance Boris learned laboratory practice and acquired experimental skills, as well as Professor I.I. Borgman , under whose leadership he completed his thesis β€œOn Electrolytic polarization. " In 1901, Zubarev was invited by the inventor of radio A.S. Popov to the position of senior laboratory assistant at the Electrotechnical Institute in St. Petersburg, where he participated in the organization of a physical laboratory in the new building of the institute. Under the leadership of Popov, he worked until his death in 1905, and at the Electrotechnical Institute until the end of 1923 (he taught, was the head of the laboratory, and headed the department of physics [1] ). In combination, he worked as a professor at the Petrograd Pedagogical Institute. A. N. Nekrasov [2] [3] .

In 1923, Zubarev was elected professor at the Department of Physics of the Far Eastern University , where he worked until 1930. Here he headed the department, taught courses in experimental and theoretical physics. Since 1930, B.I. Zubarev is an assistant professor at Leningrad University and, concurrently, is a senior research fellow at the State Optical Institute , as well as a teacher at the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute . In 1935-1936 he was a professor at Rostov University and the Novocherkassk Industrial Institute .

On August 1, 1937, Boris Innokentievich Zubarev was invited to Perm University to give a physics course and was appointed head of the department of general physics. However, by order of the rector A. I. Bukirev in 1939 he was removed from the post of head of the department.

For more than 50 years of work in various universities in Russia and the USSR, Zubarev was engaged not only in pedagogical, but also in research work, the main results of which were - at the same time as the German physicist Arthur Venelt built an electrolytic breaker; investigated the polarization of light when reflected from metals; determined the optical constants of metal crystals; the first in Russia (together with M. M. Glagolev ) to receive an x-ray from crystals according to the Laue method ; determined the thermoelectromotive force of a graphite - coal pair.

He died on July 15, 1952 in Perm, and was buried at the Yegoshikhinsky cemetery of the city. [four]

He was awarded medals, including "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945." Among his published works:

  • Optical constants of copper-antimony alloys // RFHO Report. 1911.
  • To the question of the reflection of x-rays (together with M. M. Glagolev) // Report of the RFHO. 1913.
  • Determination of thermoelectromotive forces of graphite-coal pairs // "Glass and Ceramics". [5] 1925.
  • Michelson interferometer between polarizer and analyzer: Report of the State Optical Institute. L., 1934.
