Good Commission

Commissions of good order - local government in cities with the royal jurisdiction of the Commonwealth . The first commission was created in 1765 to distribute Warsaw's income. The Sejm of 1768 created similar commissions for arranging the finances and economy of large cities and towns. Since 1777, the legal status of the commissions was formalized by royal privileges, the king appointed the members of the commissions. In the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, commissions acted in cities of “capital significance”: Mogilev , Polotsk , Vitebsk (all of them until 1772 ), Brest , Vilno , Grodno , Minsk , Novogrudok , Pinsk . They determined city incomes, took care of the state of the city economy, and of caring for the poor and sick through church donations. The four-year Seimas replaced the good-order commissions with civilian-military commissions and the Police Commission of both nations .
