In written sources, Zerbene was first mentioned in 1357, when the Archbishop of Riga ordered to build the Dzerbensky Castle ( Latvian. Dzērbenes viduslaiku pils ) at this place and gave these lands to the management of the vassal (Sīman Serben (Zerben)), from whose name the name Derzen was derived ( Serben ). [3] The settlement was formed around the Zerbensky manor ( Latvian. Dzērbenes muiža ) erected on the site of a former castle. In 1931, Zerbene was given the status of a densely populated place (village).
In Zerbene there is a parish office, a secondary school, a music school, a palace of culture, a library, a post office. Historical and architectural monuments are the Zerbenskoye estate with a park, the hillfort High Mountain ( Latvian. Augstais kalns ), a Lutheran church.
