Biography
Julia Petrovna Melentyeva was born on July 24, 1947 in the city of Orel in a family of lawyers. After being transferred to work in Moscow, her father [2] studied in Moscow. In 1963, after completing eight classes of secondary school, she entered the Moscow City Library Technical School , which she graduated with honors in 1965. In 1966 - 1971 she studied at the evening department of the Moscow State Institute of Culture (IPCC), who graduated with honors in 1971, and at the same time worked as the head of the youth department in the city Library number 112 named after. A.S. Pushkin of the city of Moscow.
From 1972 to 1975 she studied at the graduate school of the IPCC . After graduating from the post-graduate course and defending a thesis for the degree of Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, she was sent to work at the Kazan State Institute of Culture , where she worked as a senior lecturer at the Department of Library Science until March 1977.
From March 1977 to March 2004, Yu. P. Melentyeva taught (associate professor, professor) at the Moscow State Institute (University) of Culture . From 1996 to 2004 she was head of the department of library science at this institute, co-director of the Russian-German Center for Library Science created by her. Since 2004, he has been the head of the department of reading problems at the Scientific Research Center Science and Science Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS).
Yu. P. Melentyeva is one of the founders of the Russian Library Association (RBA), as well as the main developer of the first edition of the “Code of Ethics of the Russian Librarian” adopted by the RBA in 1995.
Since 2010, Yu. P. Melentyeva has been the Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Council on Reading Problems of the Russian Academy of Education (RAO), the organizer of the Permanent Scientific Seminar on Reading Problems under the auspices of the Russian Academy of Sciences and RAO. 13 editions of the “Reports of the Scientific Council on the problems of reading RW” (2010–2016) were published under its editorship.
Under the direction of Yu.P. Melentyeva, dozens of seminars and conferences, including international ones, were held on reading problems.
Since 1995, Yu. P. Melentyeva has been actively participating in sessions of the International Federation of Library Associations , working in the Literacy and Reading Section, and since 2013 has represented Russia as a member of the Standing Committee of the Section.
Yu. P. Melentyeva is the Vice-President of the Russian Association of Reading - a section of the international organization IRA (International Reading Association), as well as a member of the International Association of Library Science Scientists and Documentaryists (AVDOS).
Yu. P. Melentyev since 1996 is an academician of the International Academy of Informatization .
The scientific activity of Yu. P. Melent'eva is aimed at studying the theoretical problems of reading as a social, socio-cultural and civilizational phenomenon.
Yu. P. Melentyeva is the author of more than 450 publications, including a textbook, monographs, scientific works, including those published in the professional foreign press (Great Britain, the USA, Germany, Bulgaria and Israel).
