Prima Donna has been praised by music critics. The Metacritic website, which analyzes reviews of major publications, rated the album 83 out of a possible 100 points. Scott Glasher from XXL noted: “There is no doubt that Vince’s popularity is growing exponentially, and by launching such projects, he increases his own stock price” [10] . Pitchfork’s Mean Jayasuria wrote: “Vince has always had a sense of hopelessness, but in Prima Donna she shows her darkest features, both in songs and between them. Staples repeatedly tells us that he’s tired of everything, he’s tired, it feels like he is giving up. And you will call him an artist who throughout his career has catalyzed disasters around him. At Summertime, Vince studied his city as a microcosm of America, but here he tries to look a little deeper, inviting you to see a detailed picture. Vince Staples is a poet who looks the hard truth straight in the eye. At Prima Donna he does the same. " .
