History of Creation and Development
Background
In the 1960s, the zoologist Boris Ilyich Peshkov [2] , one of the founders of the Borzin Museum, was transferred to the Borzyu from the Chita Anti-Plague Station. In his student years, Boris Ilyich Peshkov became interested in taxidermy - making stuffed animals. He was engaged in their manufacture together with his work colleague Innokenty Samsonovich Fedurin. In 1965, it became clear that the Borzinsky Territory needed its own museum. The museum building was built with the money of the society of hunters and fishermen. Historical information was collected, people “donated” valuable exhibits. Enthusiasts made stands for free. The help in the design and creation of the exhibits was provided by the director of the art school Anatoly Kireev. [3] [4]
Creation
The Borzino Museum of Local Lore was opened on December 2, 1976 [5] on the basis of decision No. 385 of the executive committee of the regional Council of Workers' Deputies . Work has begun on creating a historical picture of the South-East of the Trans-Baikal Territory, tremendous work has been done on creating the history of local peoples, their customs and traditions.
Development and Modernity
In 1984, the museum was awarded the title of People's Museum. In 1999, local authorities decided to move the museum to an old building on Pushkin Street, where it is located now. During the move, out of 3,100 exhibits already accumulated, many died. Some of the exhibits had to be left in the same building, as they were not transportable. In 2002, by the decision of the head of administration, the museum was moved to another building, built in the early 20th century, and at different times schools, various institutions and organizations were located. At this point, the museum had only two employees - a director and a caretaker. There was no room for mass events, exhibitions, work with funds was difficult. [6] Since 2000, restoration work has been carried out in the museum building, which has been delayed due to lack of funding.
In 2003, a nature hall was opened, in 2004, two nature halls and a history hall of the native land were already operating. To the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory, the hall of the history of the Great Patriotic War was opened. In 2006, an art gallery was opened. In 2006, the art gallery of the museum of local lore held exhibitions of famous Transbaikal artists - A. Vankin, L. Shalikova, V. Kalashnikov and others. L. Shalikova is better known as an architect - according to her project, the famous chapel was built in Chita, at the foot of the Titovskaya hill, and V. A. Kalashnikov is also known as the author of the relief on the facade of the Zabaykalye hotel and wood carvings decorating the Udokan cinema in Chita. [7]
The Borzinsky Regional Museum of Local Lore annually takes part in the international action "Museum Night" .
Since 2015, the museum has been working to strengthen information accessibility, openness and the introduction of new information technologies.

The beginning of the formation of the paleontological collection of the Borzin Museum of Local Lore dates back to the 70s of the last century. The main part of the collection comes from the Kharanorsk coal mine . From there, the skull of a woolly rhinoceros, the end part of a tusk and mammoth teeth, the frontal part with the remains of horns and the teeth of a primitive bull (bison) were brought to the museum.
This part of the collection belongs to the Quaternary period of the Cenozoic era (Holocene - Eopleistocene), if you use the geochronological scale , or to the Stone Age (Paleolithic and Neolithic).
In the 70-80s. from B.I. Peshkov, a brown bear skull and a collection of rodent skulls entered the museum.
The main part of the collection was formed due to the work in August 2007 on the territory of the Borzinsky region of the expedition of the Trans-Baikal State University and the Museum of Geology of the ZabSU under the direction of Sofya Mikhailovna Sinitsa.
The expedition, led by S. M. Sinitsa, worked on the territory of the region at several points. [9]
Early Cretaceous (145-120 Ma) catenas are reconstructed from plant debris collected at the Kharanorsk open-pit mine - a change of vegetation from river-bog through slope to watershed.
In addition, the museum also has a collection collected by the expedition of S. M. Sinitsa in the Olovyanninsky district in the place of the so-called “ Middendorf Outcrop ”. This place has been known since the 40s of the XIX century, when on the right bank of the Turga river the shepherd- Buryat found stone tiles with the remains of fish, shells and insects. [6]
