The representative of the Wallachian boyar clan is Vacarescu . Received a thorough education. Studied in St. Petersburg and Vienna . He knew several foreign languages, including Italian , French , German , Turkish , Ancient and New Greek , Old Slavic , Persian , Arabic .

During the reign of Gregory Gick held high government posts. In some cases, he served as a diplomat for Wallachia, often visited missions abroad, including conducting important negotiations, for example, with the Habsburgs about the fate of their sons, thanks to Prince Alexander Ipsilanti , who were detained in Vienna in 1782; met and talked with Emperor Joseph II , supported the French ambassador, Baron de Breteuil et al.

The next ruler, Theodore Balsh, exiled him to Rhodes , but his successor, Nikolai Vogoride , returned Wakeresku from exile and appointed him a great ban .

He is the author of one of the first printed books in Romanian - grammar ( "Observaţii sau băgări de seamă asupra regulilor şi orânduielilor gramaticii româneşti" 1787), which also includes a section on prosody (the study of versification ). He also owns Greek Grammar ( Gramatica greacă completă ).

First imitated the Greek poets, later translated Voltaire and Goethe . He wrote poetry under the influence of Anacreont , using folklore motifs, the main theme of which was romantic love . He also created poems, imitating Russian folk songs.

His main poems, The Turtled Garden and Testamentul, written in Romanian, became a national classic.

His sons Alecu and Nicolae continued their father's undertakings, were also poets. His grandson was Janke Wakeresku (1786–1863), the translator of Britannic, Rasin , and was the author of poetic messages addressed to a number of contemporaries.

Granddaughter - Elena Várerescu (1964-1947), Romanian-French writer, poetess, translator, diplomat.

As a historian, he compiled the history of the Ottoman Empire , decorating it with poetic inserts. Wrote "Istorie Preaputernicilor Împăraţi Otomani" ("The History of All Powerful Ottoman Emperors").
