Biography
Angalifu was brought to San Diego from the Khartoum Zoo in the late 1980s. The rhino was kept together with the female Nola . All attempts to obtain offspring from these rhinos were fruitless [1] , possibly due to the fact that Angalif was already quite old [2] [3] .
Angalifu died of old age in December 2014 [4] . He was the penultimate male [5] of the representatives of his species (the last was the Sudan rhino). Researchers have left the sperm of the dead rhino, with the help of which they expect to fertilize the living females [6] .
