Biography

Son of Claude de Beaufremont , Marquis de Meximieux, Governor of Franche-Comté , and Marguerite de Poligny.

Viscount de Marigny, seigneur and baron de Ce, Herbs, Durn, Monsogeon, Charlier, Pucy, Monnet, Rance, Resen, and more. Great Balls Aval.

In 1656, in the rank of sergeant general, he brought four regiments of infantry and two regiments of cavalry to Flanders, recruited by him to serve His Catholic Majesty, and participated in the battle of Saint-Venant.

In 1670 he was granted the title of Knight of the Golden Fleece .

After the conquest of Franche-Comté by the troops of Louis XIV, he sided with the French. In 1674 he commanded a regiment of his own name (Listen regiment), fought under the command of Marshal Turenn at the Battle of Entzheim , near Strasbourg , where he was wounded.

In 1681, after the death of Philippe-Eugene de Gorrevo , Duke de Pont-de-Vaux, who left no heirs, Bofremont initiated the process of inheritance, claiming the rights inherited from his grandmother, Claudine de Vilmul. This lawsuit lasted more than thirty years, already under the Marquis’s heirs.

He made a will on April 5, 1682, and died in September of the same year.

Family

1st wife: Marie de Watteville . At the time of marriage, she misled the future spouse, not reporting that she had already taken a monastic vow. The marriage was annulled.

A son:

  • Louis de Beaufremont , seigneur d'Estival. He was recognized as a legitimate child, because his father did not know about the deception of his wife. However, Charles-Louis de Beaufremont, who did not forgive his ex-wife, refused to recognize her son as his main heir, and refused him relatively small possessions, consisting mainly of the lord Estival. For this reason, Louis de Beaufremont “died of sorrow” [1] [2] , leaving two sons who settled in Hungary and a daughter who married the Transylvanian prince.

2nd wife (contract 04/30/1640): Louise-Francoise de Vienne de Beaufremont , Marquise de Listen, cousin, daughter of Joachen de Beaufremont, Marquise de Listen, and Margherita de Ri de La Palu. Thanks to this marriage, the unification of family possessions was completed.

  • Claude-Paul de Beaufremont (d. 1674). Appointed Abbot Lyuksey, left the monastery after the death of his older brother. He became the Marquis de Listin, honorary nobleman of the Dolsky Parliament, the great bali of Aval, colonel of the infantry and dragoon regiments, and a knight of the burgundy order of St. George (1664). He died of a wound received on October 4, 1674 at the Battle of Saint-Francois , near Strasbourg.
  • Jean-Baptiste-Joseph-Iacent de Beaufremont . Canon of the Besancon Metropolitan Church, Abbot Luxeuil and Coadjutor of the Saint Paul Abbey. He left the church benefits for the sake of military service, and according to the will of his father he became the main heir, but soon died at the age of 22.
  • Pierre II de Beaufremont (1662–1685), Marquis de Listen and Clairvaux. Wife (1681): Marie de Barr, daughter of Bernard de Barra, Marquis de Mirbo, and Antoinette de Boquler
