He grew up in the town of Bridport in the family of a piano teacher, he studied at the . As a student, in 2008 he began to compose his own songs. In 2013, he released his debut mini-album Seven Hours at the studio , and in the same year participated in the European tour, Olafüur Arnalds . In 2014, Whelm's first album followed (with the participation of drummer Fabian Prynne, who also acted as an audio engineer and producer) and Niels Fram's North American tour. In 2016, the second album Aforger was released , written by Der on his own lyrics.
Criticism compared Dera's songs with Elton John's ballads [1] , and the manner of performance with such musicians as Tom York and James Blake [2] .
