Sporting Achievements
Germaine Rainier-Holding's career spans the years before and after World War I. Already in 1910, Rainier reached the final of the French championship (at that time played only among the players of French clubs), losing there in three sets to the current champion Jeanne Matte [3] . In 1913, she became a finalist of the World Championship on hard (clay) courts , held on the outskirts of Paris Saint-Cloud, in the mixed doubles, and a year later she reached the final in singles, losing to the young Susanne Langlen [4] .
After the war, Rainier-Golding three times in a row, from 1921 to 1923, was inferior to Langlen in the final of the championship of France [5] . In 1920, she won the world championship on hard courts in mixed doubles, where her partner was William Lorenz , and the next year she won the women's doubles with Länglen [4] . In 1922, Golding won the world championships on indoor courts in all three categories. At the 1924 Olympics in Paris, she reached the semifinals after defeating the Phillies Covell and Lily Alvarez , but lost to the future champion Helen Wills in the semifinals, and to the current Wimbledon tournament champion and 1920 Olympic champion Kathleen McCain in the match for third place [6] .
