He was a member of the Tyumen School of Higher Sports Excellence and the Center for Sports Training of the Tyumen Region, a member of the All-Russian Dynamo Sports Society.

He first made his name in the 2007 season when he won a silver medal at the Russian Junior Championships in Khanty-Mansiysk in the individual 50 km marathon, losing 54 seconds to Udmurtia’s representative Ilshat Nigmatullin [1] .

At the adult all-Russian level, he achieved his first serious success in 2011 - he became the champion of Russia in the sprint race with a classic style, including overtaking Mikhail Devyatyarov in the final, finishing second [2] . A year later, he again became a member of the national team of the Tyumen region and performed at the Russian home championship in Tyumen , where together with his team mate Gleb Retivykh he won a silver medal in the team sprint 6 Γ— 1.4 km in free style - as a result, they were only ahead of Leonid Vinogradov and Maxim Vylegzhanin from Udmurtia, who received gold. At the end of the season, Bogdanov joined the main team of Russia, took part in the stages of the World Cup [3] . He was awarded the title of Master of Sports of Russia in cross-country skiing.
