Draw System
From the qualification round, 24 teams participated in the draw, with 16 of them starting from the first stage, and 8 from the second. In both stages of the qualification, the playoff system is used, that is, the teams are divided into pairs and spend two matches with each other on the road. The winner of the pair is the team that won two victories. In case of equality of victories, the winner is the team that scored the most points within the two-match series (3 points are given for victory 3: 0 and 3: 1, 2 points for victory 3: 2, 1 for defeat 2, 1 for defeat : 3 and 0: 3 points are not awarded). If both teams scored the same number of points, an additional (“golden”) set is assigned, the winner of which goes to the next round of the competition. Teams that won the matches of the 2nd round of qualification entered the main tournament of the League. Teams that do not qualify have the opportunity to start in the European Cup .
The main tournament consists of a preliminary stage, two rounds of the playoffs and the final stage. At the preliminary stage, 20 participating teams are divided into 5 groups. In groups, teams play in two rounds. The priority in the distribution of seats in groups is the total number of victories, then the number of points scored, the ratio of won and lost games, the ratio of goals, the results of personal meetings. For victories with a score of 3: 0 and 3: 1, teams receive 3 points, for victories 3: 2 - 2 points, for defeats 2: 3 - 1 point, for defeats 0: 3 and 1: 3 points are not awarded. In the playoffs, two of the best teams from the groups and 3 teams from five, who took third places in the groups, go out. From the number of teams that reached the playoffs, the owner of the final stage is selected and allowed directly into the final round of the draw.
12 teams participating in the playoffs-12 are divided into pairs and spend two matches with each other on the road. The winner of the pair is the team that won two victories. In case of equal victories, the winner is the team that scored the most points in the two-match series, the accrual system of which is similar to that used at the preliminary stage. If both teams scored the same number of points, then an additional (“golden”) set is assigned, the winner of which goes to the playoffs-6.
6 teams participating in the playoffs 6 according to the same system determine the three participants in the final stage, where the host team of the final joins them.
The draw for the qualification round and the preliminary stage of the main tournament was held in Rome on June 9, 2016 [4] . According to its results, 5 groups of the preliminary stage of the main tournament were formed (the tables show the composition of the groups taking into account the qualification results).
