Geography
The district is located in the southern part of the county of Somerset , bordered by the counties of Wiltshire , Dorset and Devon .
History
The area, originally known as Yeovil , was formed on April 1, 1974 as a result of the merger of Boroughs Yovil and Chard , urban areas ( Eng. Urban district ) Krukern and Ilminster and rural areas ( Eng. Rural District ) Chard , Langport , Winkanton and Yeovil . In 1985, the district was renamed South Somerset .
