Babinets (architecture)

Babinets in the Church of St. Paraskeva ( Kwiaton , Poland )

Babinets is one of the three parts of the tridilny temple. The name comes from the Ukrainian word "woman", that is, the narthex of the temple, where women could stand during church service. In this regard, this concept is predominantly common in Eastern Europe ( Ukraine , Belarus , Poland , Czech Republic ) to denote the western vestibule of the temple (mainly wooden).

Babinets, as part of a church in Ukraine, has a different construction style, which usually depends on the ethnographic region in which the church is being built. In Transcarpathia and Lemkovschine preserved wooden churches of the style close to the Gothic, where there was a high sheer tower above the Babin. In the Hutsul five-core churches above the Babinets there was usually no dome. In Podolsk and Galician churches above Babinets there were mainly domes, their height and shape commensurate with the altar.
