Description
The church is located in the center of the village on a hill and in architectural terms is a transitional type from Boykovo to Lemkovo architecture. The monument gravitates more to the Boyka school of architecture, but the superstructure of the bell tower above the western part, which was higher than the central blockhouse, upset the balance of the architectural masses and provided the building with features typical of Lemkovo architecture. [2] The strict geometry of architectural forms and the observation gallery of the bell tower bring it close to the wooden defense architecture. [3]
The Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, made of spruce beams in 1645, was transported and delivered to its current location in 1703 from the village of Syanki, Lviv Region . Corner joints are made by notches in a simple lock with a secret straight spike. In the plan, all three log cabins are close to the square, the central log cabin is wider than the other log cabins. All three volumes of the church are covered by tent assurances with two ledges and surrounded by a canopy on the issues. The roof, canopy and walls above the gallery are covered with shingle . Preserved wooden carvings of the XVIII century. The length of the church is 15 meters, the width is 7 meters, the height of the tower from the foundation is 14 meters.
Doors lead to the Bibinian church, the frame of which in the center has a sharp silhouette that resembles a Gothic shape. The low dark Babinet, as if in contrast, enhances the spaciousness and lightness of the high open space of the middle room, focuses on the iconostasis of 1645. [4] Icons are painted on linden boards that have darkened from varnish over the centuries. The church houses the richly decorated Gospel , which was purchased in 1871, as well as the ancient Gospel dated 1691. [five]
In 1761, a frame belfry was built over the Babinets log house. The largest bell was confiscated for military purposes during the liberation war of the Hungarians, led by Lajos Kossuth in 1848-1849. A new batch of bells was made in 1899 by the foundry worker Sandor Laszlo in Malye Geyivtsi near Uzhgorod . [6]
Now the Church of the Holy Protection belongs to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate and is renamed the Kostrinsky Monastery.
