Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary ( Polish: Cerkiew Narodzenia Przenajświętszej Bogurodzicy ) is a wooden Greek Catholic church, built in 1671, in the village of Khotinets, Yaroslavl County , Subcarpathian Voivodeship of Poland .

On June 21, 2013, at the 37th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee , held in Cambodia , the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, along with other wooden churches of the Carpathian region of Poland and Ukraine , was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List . [1] [2] .
Description
The first documented mention of the construction of the church dates from 1671. [3] The original church building was with two or three domes on drums. Above the narthex was the Annunciation chapel with external galleries. The church was rebuilt several times, in particular in 1733, 1858 and 1925.
The church is one of the few active Greek Catholic churches in Poland that survived the war and the postwar destruction associated with the subsequent deportation of the population. After the deportation of the Ukrainians in 1947, it was closed, and then transferred to the Roman Catholic Church . In the 1980s, it was again closed due to a dilapidated condition. In 1990, the temple was transferred to the original owners - the Greek Catholic community. In 1991-1994, the church was completely renovated by parishioners.
The church is original and harmonious in structure. The wooden temple is tridial: in the middle there is an altar, a nave, a babin and a narthex. The domes on the drums are octagonal. Hallway with a gable roof. Babinets three-story with two altars. The original bell tower of the church was destroyed during the Second World War , and in 1993 the bell tower of the 17th century from the village of Torquay was attached. The interior preserved the icons of 1735 and 1772, in particular, the Last Judgment painting on the south wall of the nave. After many years of desolation, part of the painting was lost, but the recently renovated iconostasis, probably 1671 with the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary , remained. There is also an icon depicting St. Nicholas .
