Kozhanovskoe Lake is the largest lake of natural origin in the Bryansk region . It was polluted as a result of the Chernobyl disaster. In 2007, the pollution density was estimated at 15 Ci / km² for cesium-137 (data from the Russian Emergencies Ministry). The surface area is 3.22 km². Altitude - 134.6 [1] m.

General information
Geographically located in the Gordeevsky district of the Bryansk region in the lake basin on the site of the ancient passage valley of glacial water flow.
The lake received the status of a nature monument of regional significance in 1997. The lake itself and the adjoining wetlands are unique to the region by the habitat of numerous species of waterfowl and near-water birds.
In various print media and on maps, Lake Kozhan is often marked under the name of 3 lakes: B. Udebnoye, B. Kozhanovskoye and Vikholka. The total area is approximately 450 hectares. Lake Kozhany is stretched in a northeast direction about four kilometers in length and three kilometers in width. The lake is rich in peat , the reserves of which according to preliminary studies are more than 38 million tons. Here live the animals listed in the Red Book ( mute swan and great white heron ), as well as an insect also listed in the Red Book - a bumblebee .
