World War I
In August 1914 , he took part in a campaign in East Prussia . Participant in the battles of Warsaw (10. 1914 ) and Lodz (11.1914).
From 01.04. 1915 - commander of the 99th Ivangorod Infantry Regiment. He led the regiment in battles at Lake Naroch in March 1916 (the 25th Infantry Division was part of the group of General Baluev ).
06.03. 1916 - during the attack of the German positions, the 99th Ivangorod Infantry Regiment came under heavy enemy fire, laid down and suffered losses. Tomilin decided to move to the starting position. The retreat of the 99th Infantry Regiment led to the retreat of the neighboring 100th and 98th Infantry Regiments, which in turn led to the return of the entire 25th Infantry Division to their trenches. For these actions on the same day (March 6, 1916 ) he was removed from the command of the regiment by order of the temporary commander of the division, General N.G. Filimonova.
