The Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary ( Ukrainian Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary ) is a wooden church of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the village of Matkov , built in 1838. Monument of Boykiv architecture and monumental art. June 21, 2013 at the 37th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee , held in Cambodia , the Church of the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin, together with other wooden churches of the Carpathian region , was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List . Description
The Church of the Blessed Virgin Cathedral was built in 1838. They built the temple of the master Ivan Melnikovich and Vasily Ivanikovich. [3] The church is located on a low hill in the central part of the village, at a distance of 250 m from the highway, in the valley of the Stry river.
The church is three-domed, three-tier, refers to the temples of the Boykovsky type. Square log cabins are located along the west-east axis. On both sides of the altar adjoin small rectangular sacristy. The main volumes complete with an eight-sided top, above the nave with five ledges, above the altar and the vestibule - with four ledges, which are crowned with eights with domes and crosses. The church is girded by a porch that rests on step-down performances of log cabins. The church gallery has a clear rectangular shape and a large ledge, under which lies the bottom of the church. To the south-west of the church there is a wooden, three-tier, square-shaped bell tower, with a balcony on the second tier facing the small square in front of the southern facade of the church. Covered with a tent roof with a grate gallery above it. The bell tower was built in 1924 by master Mikhail Veklich. [3]
On June 14, 2010, lightning struck the church and a fire occurred, but the automatic fire extinguishing system saved the monument from destruction. [five]
