Climbing History

Climbers Anthony Reilly and Eduard Wimper made their first ascent to the peak of Mont Dolan, accompanied by guides Michel Cro and Michel Payot and porter Henri Charle on July 9, 1864 from Italy. Subsequently, Wimper described this ascent in his book Scrambles Amongst the Alps: In the Years 1860-69 [3] [4] .

Climbing routes

The classic climbing route to Mont Dolan repeats the route of first climbers. The route runs along the southern wall of the peak, starting at the Dolan Shelter (also called the Cesari Fiorio Shelter), and then, through the De Pre Pres de Bar Glacier, goes to a short steep section on the southeast ridge and to the top. The route has difficulty category II according to UIAA classification (corresponds to PD + category according to IFAS classification). Other climbing routes have difficulty categories II-III according to the UIAA classification (PD + / AD + / TD-) [5] [6] .
