Taxonomy

The species was first scientifically described in 1965 [4] .

Range

These bathydemersal ramps live off the coast of the Bahamas and the United States ( Florida ). They are found in the upper part of the continental slope at a depth of 366 to 411 m [2] .

Description

The broad and flat pectoral fins of these slopes form a rhombus disk with an elongated snout and rounded edges. On the ventral side of the disc are 5 gill slits, nostrils and mouth. On the long tail there are lateral folds [1] . The maximum recorded length is 54 cm [3] .

Biology

Like other rhombic, these stingrays lay eggs enclosed in a rigid horn capsule with protrusions at the ends. Embryos feed exclusively on yolk [3] .

Human Interaction

These skates are not subject to targeted fishing. May be caught as by- catch in bottom trawling. The data for the assessment of the conservation status of the species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature are insufficient [2] .
