Use
ʅ is used in synology to denote a syllable ringing retroflex sibilant , in an MFA usually denoted by []. Sinology also uses the rounded equivalent of this letter - ʯ [1] .
Unicode
In Unicode, the letter is located in the MFA Extensions block, where it was already introduced in version 1.0, but under the wrong name latin small letter squat reversed esh ( Latin lowercase compressed mirror ash ) [2] . Since, according to the Unicode policy, the names assigned to characters no longer change [3] , the name of the character was not corrected.
