Club history
The “Jerv” club was founded on August 21, 1921 in the Norwegian commune of Grimstad called “Vestergatens FK” in honor of the street on which it was founded. A few years later the club changed its original name to "Djerv". In 1934, the club merged with the local football team and received its final name “Jerv” ( Norwegian “Jerv” ), which wears to this day. Since its creation, Jerv has been performing at the regional level of the Norwegian Championships lower leagues until the 1980s.
The 1970s were marked by an English period in the history of the club. During these years, the Jervs were alternately headed by the English Douglas Reynolds, Jeffrey Hudson and Brian King . In the 1980s, the club was twice headed by an Englishman, Ian Crawford . The English coaches did not earn significant progress in the development of the club and eventually the club returned to attracting its own football staff and specialists from neighboring countries, among which, for example, was well-known Swedish coach of clubs and national teams Bu Johansson , who led the team from 1984 to 1985 . However, even the involvement of eminent specialists did not significantly help the club, and “Yerv” with varying success continued to play in the regional leagues of Norway.
From the beginning of the 2000s, Yerv seemed intent on withdrawing from the Third Division , in which the club spent most of its history. Two years in a row Yerv became the best in its division, but in 2000 the club failed in the playoffs of the tournament and had to postpone the task of entering the next year. However, as early as next season , Yerv again became the winner of his league and, after a second attempt, finally entered the Second Division .
Along with the success of the men's club, it was decided to create also a women's team. In 1999, on the basis of the men's football club, a women's team was created under the name " Amazon Grimstad ". The women's team, like the men's team, was stationed in Grimstad and was a branch of the men's soccer club. Both teams were to play at the Ugland club stadium. Today, both teams play in the same stadium.
In 2003, Yerv left the Second Division . For eight years (from 2004 to 2011), the club has consistently played in the Third Division. In the 2009 season , the club won the division, but again failed in the playoffs of the tournament, and three more times remained on the verge of exit, taking second place. Finally, in the 2011 season , Yerv again won the third league championship, and, thanks to the cancellation of the playoff system, rose to the next division without additional tests as the winner of the regular season.
In November 2007, the famous Norwegian footballer Tore Andre Dahlum joined the team as an assistant to the head coach. In 2008, Dalum became the head coach of the team. “Yerv” became the first Dalum football club as the main tutor. In 2009, Dalum won the championship of the third league, but after losing the playoff tournament, he left his post.
The last time he took off from the Second Division in 2012 , since then, “Yerv” will certainly win almost all the leagues in which he participated. First, in the 2013 season, the club won the third league championship, and the following year, in the 2014 season , and the Second Division, for the first time in its history, having qualified for the OBOS League - the second largest division in the Norwegian Championship. Thus, in two years, “Yerv” made the way from the third league to the first division, not lingering in any of the leagues for more than one season.
In 2015, Yerv made his debut in the OBOS League. Already in its debut season in the new league, the club took the fifth highest place for a newcomer in the league and from the first attempt reached the playoff zone. Moreover, being a tournament debut, “Jerv” immediately reached the playoff finals, where he played with Tiptopeligi’s 14th team in the 2015 regular season with the Start club from Kristiansand commune in the neighboring province of Vest Agder . Derby teams from neighboring regions ended in favor of FC Start (1: 1 in Grimstad and 1: 3 in favor of Start in Kristiansand). Thus, for three years, the club failed to make the first path in the history of Norwegian football from the third division to Tippeleague. However, few of the Norwegian teams managed to do something similar in their history.
In the 2016 season, Yerv took the second place in a row in the playoffs of the OBOS League and reached the final, where, after two meetings, he lost to Tippellig 's 14th team, this time to the Stabek club with a score of 1: 2.
