The men's 1,500m final was held on March 20, 2016. The race was held at a calm pace to the final 400 meters: for 2 laps to the finish, an experienced New Zealander Nick Willis extended his group with his acceleration. This tactic brought him a medal, but only a bronze one. On the final straight he was beaten by the American Matthew Centrovitz and Czech Jakub Golusha (who in the last lap got out of seventh place and won the gap from the leader by almost 20 meters) [2] .
