Biography
Zeldin grew up in Shirley , Suffolk County , NY and graduated from William Floyd High School in 1998. He received a bachelor 's degree in art from the University of New York at Albany in 2001, and a doctorate in law from the School of Law in Albany in 2003.
In 2010, he was elected to the New York State Senate from the 3rd constituency, defeating incumbent Democratic Senator Brian Foley, and in 2012 was re-elected for a second term.
In 2008, he unsuccessfully tried to be elected to the US House of Representatives from the 1st constituency of New York, losing to Democrat Tim Bishop. In 2014, he decided to run again in the election against him and this time won, gaining 54% of the vote.
